A recent report, published by The National Academies Press detailed the depth with which the Penn State College of Medicine experiences sexual and gender based harassment. The report claims that nearly half of women in the College of Medicine experience gender-based hostility from faculty or staff during their time at Penn State.

According to the New York Times, twenty percent of students at four year colleges are food insecure. This means that students are going hungry while studying, which can affect their progress toward their undergraduate degree. The first food bank run by university students was created at Michigan State University in 1993. This past March Penn State Behrend followed suit by creating the Lion’s Pantry.  The Lion’s Pantry is a confidential program designed to help alleviate the need of nutritious food and personal hygiene products on campus.

A recent assessment by the Educational Testing Service found that students from Behrend’s Black School of Business were in the top 9% of business administration students in the nation. 58 Behrend students took part in the test, and scored an average of 260 points, out of a possible 300. This put Behrend students in the ninety-first percentile for all who took the test.

The "E" ride is the primary form of public transportation within the city and county of Erie.

It is free to all Penn State Behrend students by obtaining a "E" ride sticker at the RUB desk in Reed Union Building. Many individuals depend on its service to get around, with an annual ridership of 3.4 million in 2014 to 2015. However, Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority ridership has diminished to fewer than 3.1 million rides from 2015 to 2016. Various variables can account for the decline.

Penn State ranked top 25 on Campus Pride Index

Penn State is once again recognized for being nationally ranked in the top 25 of the 2017 Campus Pride Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning-Friendly Campus Climate Index by Campus Pride. Campus Pride, which is a non-profit, is a student organization that works to improve LGBTQA environments and understanding at colleges and universities across the country.

Behrend hosts annual Volunteer Fair

On Wednesday, August 30th, 2017, Penn State Behrend held a Volunteer Fair that occurs every semester in order to expose students to volunteer opportunities in the area and in surrounding regions. Many different organizations were present, like the Crime Victim Center of Erie County, a non-profit organization that provides services to victims of all crimes, and the Anna Shelter, a local humane society.

North Korea launches missile into Pacific Ocean

The Pentagon confirmed Monday that North Korea has launched a missile that flew over Japan and hit into the Pacific Ocean. The launched occurred at 5:57am North Korea local time.

Pentagon spokesman US Army Col. Rob Manning confirmed the launch. He said, “We are still in the process of assessing this launch.”

BVZ Radio launches new logo
