$100,000 GE scholarship created for Penn State Behrend Students

Nancy Anderson, former Chief Information Officer and Digital Thread leader for GE Transportation has donated a $50,000 gift matched by GE totaling to $100,000 to provide scholarships for students with financial need at Penn State Behrend.

This gift will generate additional funding from Penn State that will match 5 percent of the principal give in perpetuity. Trustee Scholarships result in an average overall rate of return of 9.5 percent when traditional scholarships generate on average of about 4.5 percent.

The scholarship will go to students in financial need. The first preference will be graduates of North East High School. Students who receive funding may be eligible for renewal in the future if they continue their studies at Penn State Behrend.

Anderson earned her master’s degree in business administration from Penn State Behrend in 1977. She is active within the college and since she began working with the University, GE has sponsored more than $11 million in projects with Penn State. She has recently been named CIO of GE Power which is GE’s largest industrial business.

Anderson maximized the impact of her gift by creating a Trustee Matching Scholarship. Since the program started, donors have funded 50 new scholarships at Penn State Behrend which has added more than $11 million to the college’s overall scholarship endowment.

Gifts to the university have been essential to the success of the historic land-grant mission to serve the public good. The University has begun “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” a campaign that focuses on the three key imperatives of a public university. To learn more, visit www.giveto.psu.edu.
