Gambling shooter arrested

On Tuesday night police were called to Grambling University in Louisiana after receiving a call reporting gunshots on campus.

Police arrived at Grambling's campus in Northern Louisiana on the evening of the 24th of November in response to reports of gunfire. Grambling University houses nearly 5,000 students and is a historically black college. Grambling has already experience gun violence earlier this year. Upon arriving at the university police found two men dead in a courtyard placed between two dorm buildings. The victims were identified as 23-year-old Earl Andrews, and 23-year-old Monquiarious Caldwell. The two victims went to highschool together in Farmerville Louisiana 30 miles away from the university and were cousins through marriage. Earl Andrews was a junior at Grambling State University studying criminal justice, Monquiarious Caldwell was not a student of the university.

Right away police ruled that the shooting was not a random act of violence but that rather the victims knew their murderer. Mike Stone the local sheriff stated, “This tragic incident appears to have occurred between persons that knew each other, to some extent at least. There are no indicators that this incident bears any resemblance to any of the random acts of violence or domestic terrorism that have been experienced around our country in the recent weeks." Police believe the altercation started in one of the dorms and spilled out into the courtyard.

Authorities searched for the shooter extensively in hope of finding the perpetrator within 48 hours. The only description of the shooter that police gave out was that the shooter was believed to be a black male. The suspect remained at large however the university held classes as usual. Grambling State President Richard Gallot Jr. said the college will have "increased police and security" on campus this week but will proceed with a normal academic schedule and isn't canceling homecoming events, according to the New York Times.

On Wednesday Jaylin M. Wayne, a 19-year-old freshman from St. Louis was arrested for the shooting. Jaylin Wayne is now facing first-degree murder charges.

An interview with victim Earl Andrews' brother, Ledarius Heard revealed that Andrews lived off campus and planned on moving to Texas after his graduation to be closer to his son who is only one year old. Heard claimed that his brother normally returned home directly after his classes, however had stayed on campus Tuesday to enjoy homecoming week with friends.

Wayne has been arrested but has not yet been officially charged with the murders. There has also been no information given on what caused the altercation to occur or why it became deadly. Students held an informal memorial for Andrews and Caldwell on

Wednesday evening.
