Cru has recently extended an invitation to sororities to begin fostering relationships and form connections between the two organizations.

Cru is an on-campus organization that is passionate about connecting students to Jesus Christ. Their vision is that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus. Recently, Cru has extended their vision to Greek life. More specifically, sorority women.

Morgan Yelverton, a sophomore who is a part of Cru and Alpha Sigma Alpha, came up with the idea of starting a small group that was solely for sorority women. With the help of Cru staff, namely Maggie Schultz, her vision has become a reality.

“We wanted to create a new community for girls to grow their faith. However, we realized that Greek Life was already a community, so we decided to build a community within a community,” Yelverton said.

With help, Schultz has planned and got off the ground a small group that does just what she wanted. The small groups are being held on Monday’s at 6:30, and meet in front of Paws.

“This is a chance for girls to come together to support one another in their faith or faith endeavors/exploration, and then to grow in themselves along the way,” Yelverton added.

They both emphasized that being a part of this small group is a safe place where women who know Jesus and those who want to or are interested in knowing Jesus can talk.

“You don't have to have any prior knowledge about anything to come, just a willingness to learn and share your perspective,” Schultz said.

Schultz hopes the groups to become a bridge between sorority women and Jesus Christ. Eventually, she wants to start incorporating fraternal small groups so all of Greek life, male and female, can take part.

“We hope that we can be a resource for the Greek Life community to help understand who God is and to use their influence to help others along in their spiritual journey,” she said.

Both Yelverton and Schultz are hoping that they begin to see more women showing up at the small groups. They said that right now attendance is still a little shaky and sometimes there are days when no girls come at all. However, this has not stopped them and both are standing firm with their beliefs that this has the ability to become a major outlet for Cru and the Greek life community.
