A recent assessment by the Educational Testing Service found that students from Behrend’s Black School of Business were in the top 9% of business administration students in the nation. 58 Behrend students took part in the test, and scored an average of 260 points, out of a possible 300. This put Behrend students in the ninety-first percentile for all who took the test.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Major Field Test is advertised as the only test of its kind, allowing MBA students to properly show their mastery of the material they have learned in college. The test consists of 124 multiple-choice questions, half of which are scenario-based case studies. Historically, asking scenario questions has been used as a popular tactic in the business sphere, because it is believed to better allow students to apply their knowledge, rather than simply regurgitating it. A press release from the Office of Strategic Communications claimed that, “The questions require knowledge of marketing, management, finance, and managerial accounting, or a combination of those skills.”

“Our students’ exceptional performance on this national test reflects the Black School MBA program’s emphasis on a holistic understanding of business, which is achieved through integrated content, teamwork and applied learning”, explained Al Warner, associate professor of management and academic chair of the MBA program.

Behrend’s MBA program is created in a hybrid format, which allows it to be taught in a mix of online and traditional class environments--this affords individuals a much greater degree of flexibility. The program can be completed in a single year for full-time students, but part-time classes are available and take two years to complete. 130 students in total are enrolled in the program in Behrend at the moment.

MBA students study in the Jack Burke Research and Economic Development Center. The building which was built with a $20 million endowment from Samuel P. Black Jr. and his wife, Irene, gives Behrend business students an incredibly unique learning environment.

Warner continued praising the professors at Behrend as well as the sophisticated tools at students’ disposal saying, “Our MBA faculty members have significant experience in both the business and academic worlds and are committed to sharing their expertise with students from a wide range of fields.” As a result of these advantages, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Princeton Review both consistently rate Behrend among the best business schools in the nation.
