BVZ Radio launches new logo

BVZ Radio’s new logo was premiered Monday with introduction of their new merchandise--tumblers, magnets, and backpacks.

The new logo helps to commemorate the radio station’s fifth anniversary on campus.  Hoping to update and rebrand BVZ’s presence on campus, the logo features a combination of a Nittany lion pawprint and a microphone--adding a new, modern feel to the previous plain lettering of the logo.

Senior Communications major Rachel Cotton, who is acting as the student Station Manager for BVZ Radio, hopes the new logo will attract more interaction across the campus--with both listeners and those who hope to find their place in college radio.

Cotton spoke about the radio’s current reputation on campus, “I’ve been told many times that when we’re outside, people can hear us from Burke to OBS.  You can hear us across campus, so we might be small, but we come out strong,”

Cotton hopes that the new logo will inspire those who want to participate in BVZ to discover how college radio can fit into their experience.  “BVZ is the voice of Behrend,” she stated, “Be the voice of your campus.”

Andre Mosley, the News and Sports Director for BVZ also spoke of the versatility of college radio.  “If you want to have a radio show, you can make it based off of your own interests,” the junior MIS major stated, “It’s something different to get involved in on campus, and it can grow even on a smaller campus like ours.”

As for how he sees the future of BVZ, Mosley is optimistic. “The logo will provide a nice, new look for us, as well as helping us get more exposure.  That way, we can grow our listener base.”

For those who want to help Mosley and Cotton’s goal of expanding the radio station’s presence on campus become reality, BVZ is hosting a fast-track program in late September.  This program will allow anyone who wants to become a part of the college radio scene to learn the basics before developing their own radio shows.

Cotton also urges students to continue listening to BVZ radio at behrendbvz.org, as well as following the radio station on social media, including their new Instagram page at @BehrendBVZRadio.
