Shredding for Shriners brings in donors for children of Erie

Shriners Hospital for Children and Shred X teamed up once again to host the Shredding for Shriners event this past Saturday. This event helps raise money for the general child care fund. This fund helps fulfill their mission of taking care of the children regardless of the parent’s ability to pay.

Shredding for Shriners usually happens two times a year, once right after Tax Day and once again in September.

Cars lined up to drop off their personal documents and receipts and to give a donation to the event. Shred X of Erie comes to the location and helps with the shredding process.

Michael Widrig, the public relations specialist of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Erie, partnered with the coach of the McDowell football team to make this event happen. She stated, “We partner with the coach of the McDowell football team and he brings football players each year to come help us with the heavy lifting and they do it in exchange for service hours.”

Once cars were directed to the trucks, the football team transported the boxes of personal data to the appropriate bins. The employees from Shred X then took those trash bins and properly shredded the materials on site. Donors were asked if they would like to be notified for the next Shredding for Shriners event.

If you were unable to attend this Shredding for Shriners event, you are still able to take your personal documents to Shred X within the next couple days for donation to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

On Tuesday, September 19, The Shriners Hospital for Children is holding their third annual Telethon event from 5:00pm – 8:00pm and are taking donations at that time.

Widrig mentioned that, “People are able to come to the medical center to donate or they can pledge online that day or on phone, we’ll have a photo bank set up as well.”
