The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team has been all over the state this week, proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Their week of matches on the road began this past Tuesday, as the team traveled to Hilbert for a match. Going into the week, the team was on a four-game winning streak, so momentum was on their side.

The Lions held a 34-11 advantage in kills and had their second-best hitting percentage of the season. Outsider hitter and senior Amanda Henry had a commendable game with 10 kills and 11 digs to account for one-third of the Lions’ kills on the night. Senior and setter Lexi Irwin put up 28 assists. Freshman Cara Zollars dug-up nine hits and had a match-high record of four aces. Behrend defeated the Hilbert Hawks 3-0 in straight sets, winning each game by at least nine.

On Thursday, the Lions were back on the road to Meadville, PA for a non-conference match against Allegheny College. Behrend had an amazing match and added to their winning streak. Irwin tallied 11 kills and 26 assists. Sophomore Maddison Clapper led the Lions in digs with 16 and served up four aces. Outside hitter and freshman Kristin Reiland had nine kills out of 16 attack attempts with only one error. The Lions swept Allegheny and won two sets by double digits.

Penn State Behrend won the match in four set, suffering only one narrow defeat in the third set and cruising the rest of the way.

The second match of the day was against Elizabethtown. Unfortunately, the Lions had their then seven game winning streak snapped by the Blue Jays. The Lions were able to take the first game of the match, but were unable maintain that momentum in the next three matches. They lost the last three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-21, respectively. Despite the loss, Irwin propelled the team the team with 31 assists, 16 digs, and 10 kills in the match. Henry and Reiland were both able to add nine kills each to the match.
