Rose gold, a common trend in today’s world, is also known as Russian gold due to its roots during the 19th century where its popularity began. After its rise, the name had soon faded and become more popular in Britain where it grew and become more accepted worldwide. Today, rose gold is emerging yet again in popularity. Is it just a fad or will it stand the test of time as it resurfaces in not only the jewelry department but in many other places?

One of the more unique uses of the fad is by Disney. The company not only implemented it already into their merchandise by selling sparkling rose gold Mickey and Minnie ears and t-shirts Disney has also incorporated the color into their food! The most popular of the food is a cupcake with rose gold frosting. The cupcake is a chocolate cake topped with an elaborate rose gold frosting with rosy pearls embedded in the frosting. The cupcake looks almost too chic to eat. This is almost a change in identity for the amusement park, as this perhaps high-end color is taking over. When I think of Disney it is a far thought from the glamour associated with rose gold. The colors typically associated with Disney are their simple colors like the primary colors seen in logos and movies of the company - not the maturity of a gold.

This bronzy gold can also be seen in home décor and even home appliances. Rose gold adds a sense of elegance to a home and is warmer than its sister yellow gold. One of the first places that people of the millennial generation came into contact with rose gold consciously was when Michael Kors watches were all the rage just a few short years ago. It seemed that every girl “needed” one of these watches and the primary color you saw wrapped around the wrist of high school and college girls was rose gold. Apple has recently taken advantage of this fad by coming out with a rose gold phone option. Soon many of their other electronics followed, such as the laptop and headphones.

With the rise of rose gold yet again in society, merchandise and retails aisles have been taken over by storm with this color. But will the obsession last? Some may think that less is more, while others will say to keep it coming. Only time will tell the fate of this ever-popular color.
