It’s the most wonderful time of the year, to be an avid gamer. While most people are moping about the cold temperatures and mucky conditions outside, gamers are settling in and hunkering down, preparing themselves for the onslaught of Xbox Playstation Nintendo Switch and PC games set to come out this season. Although 2017 has already been boasted as a banner year for game releases, November’s line-up still takes the cake once again.

To those who forgo indulging in alternate realities that games immerse their users into, the beginning of November might be a puzzling time for companies to put their games on the market, but with the holiday season approaching, and an increase in a number of users accessing online gaming networks in the fall and winter months, releasing games in the early part of November just works well for business.

The following are several games set to come out this fall. The majority of games set to release can be categorized as “first-person shooters”, but there remains a multitude of games from a variety of genres that have been, or continue to be highly anticipated.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is the latest installment to this third-person series. As announced at the E3 2017 summit, the story takes players to Ancient Egypt where the brotherhood of assassins was said to have been originally created. Those who have played the previous installments will notice several differences about the game that developers hope will provide smoother play and increased enjoyment. Ubisoft has done away with the icon riddled mini-map and added an eagle eye function that gives the “assassin” an overview of the area they are playing in, which can help gamers avoid those pesky temple guards.

Destiny 2 is making its way from solely console play to PC, allowing computer gamers their first chance to snag this MMO (massively multiplayer online game). Although Destiny 2 released for consoles back in September, the PC version has been hotly anticipated since the announcement was made. PC gamers are thrilled to finally add this game to their collection, however, PS4 is still the platform that Bungie has placed all its eggs in. The PS4 edition comes with several additional components that PC and Xbox users won’t have access to, giving a competitive edge to Sony’s gaming platform.

Call of Duty: WWII takes CoD enthusiasts back to their roots with their latest installment. Stepping back from futuristic warfare weapons, body armor and storylines this highly anticipated rendition of WWII has, for now, calmed the critics of this widely recognized gaming series. With the addition of health packs, several new online multiplayer objectives including vehicle escorts and the slashing of the ‘create-a-class’ function activision looks to cash in on this revamped edition of one of human history’s deadliest conflicts. Their hope is that Battlefield 1, which released earlier this year, hasn’t won the hearts of first-person shooters and history buffs yet.

Hello Neighbor moves away from the litany of first-person shooters set to come out this fall, but pumps players full of 120 CC’s of suspense and adrenaline. The objective is to spy on your next door neighbor, who presumably is a serial killer. The goal is to break in and root around in the neighbor's house, trying your best not to get caught. But while it may seem easy to eventually know the way to beat the game, there’s a catch. The game itself has the ability to learn and adapt as users play. Hello Neighbor will begin to pick up on where you go and how you typically play and will rework its gameplay in which case old tactics begin to fail. The lackluster graphics make way for the complexity and puzzle-like set up that should have users on the edge of their couches.

Wolfenstein 2 is making a comeback since its first release over twenty-five years ago. The release comes at a time when it seems white supremacist groups believe they’re gaining ground in the hearts and minds of the American population. However, Wolfenstein 2 makes players shoot Nazi’s instead. As the online publication PC Gamer put it, “some people say there are too many games about shooting Nazi’s, we say nope.” In this alternate reality, users are immersed into a world where the Third Reich controls the world and has allowed the KKK to run rampant throughout the country. The storyline follows a group of underground anarchists that are looking to topple the Nazi-run government here in the United States. If the trailers and the cutscenes shown are just a taste of this game, its gameplay and content are sure to make it one of the hottest games on the market this season, aside from CoD: WWII and Destiny 2.

Aside from this short list, there are a multitude of games that either have already released, or are set to release this season. The long list of releases provides avid gamers new playing fields to try, while also paying homage to some classics and perhaps snagging a few novice gamers along the way. Make sure to check out the full line-up of new games available today, the sheer amount and variety this season should provide a muse for everyone from everyday gamers to novice players and all those in-between.
