More than a Slim chance of success:

Erie artist finds self through music

Sean Harris, also known as Hawaii Slim, has been an active member of the growing Erie Hip Hop scene for about 5 years. From performing at local concerts to releasing several mixtapes and singles on SoundCloud, Slim is really making his own way in the scene, providing a new sound similar to nothing heard before.

Starting young at 14 years of age, Harris began by writing and rapping a capella. It was not until he was 17 that  he recorded some of his first hip hop records over instrumentals.  Since then, Slim has been continuously looking to integrate new sounds and ideas to serve up to anybody who is ready to listen.

Capturing a “wavy, trippy, upbeat-trap” style with the majority of his recent sounds, Hawaii Slim is definitely someone you need to keep on your radar for upcoming artists for his creative style and captivating words.

A quick stroll through Slim’s catalog and you’ll soon realize how talented his lyrical ability is. Having full length projects (“Witch Bathroom” and “0 Calories”) Slim really gives you the chance to run through everything from thoughts on daily life struggles, romantic encounters, to everybody’s favorite activity: flexing. Aside from his upfront ability to write personable lyrics on relatable topics, he is still able to offer up a unique perspective that couldn’t be anything but “Hawaii Slim” in terms of originality.

To back up this genuineness, Harris goes on to explain what he has learned about himself while making music.

“Rap is Real. Rap is your soul,” said Slim. “So I guess by Rapping and making Hip-Hop music I’ve got in tune with my true self.”

One of Hawaii Slim’s biggest successes to this day (although it is not something he is proud of) is the popularity of one of his earlier singles titled “Bae.” Although Slim no longer performs this song during his live sets and believes it isn’t among his best work, it still has received over 65k plays on SoundCloud and is well-known amongst most locals.

It’s been 8 months since Hawaii Slim’s last project “Witch Bathroom,” was released, and to this date he has yet to announce any upcoming projects. With that being said, however, in a recent interview, Slim has hinted on finishing up a body of work he has written currently. It will be exciting to see what comes next from such a young artist that can show a level of potential being from a smaller city with no major scene. Keep your eyes peeled for what is next from Hawaii Slim, and in the meantime why not treat yourself to his current releases via SoundCloud?  https://soundcloud.com/saltwaterslim.
