The Behrend men’s volleyball team had two regional matchups this past week against the D’Youville Spartans and Penn State Altoona Lions. Behrend was able to maintain its .500 record overall and went to 3-1 in the AMCC Conference. On Thursday, Behrend completed a clean sweep of the Spartans, winning each game in the match by a decisive margin. Unfortunately, Behrend lost three fairly close games and the match 3-1 to Altoona. The Lions currently sit in the second spot of the conference, behind only the Medaille Mavericks, who are undefeated thus far in conference play.

Behrend’s up and down season continued with their second victory out of three on Thursday night. The Lions defeated D’Youville for the fourth consecutive time in a home match at the Junker Center, winning each of the three games by nine, seven and 14, respectively. With a very efficient match and a season low in errors, Behrend encountered few bumps on the road to defeat the Spartans, minus a slow start to the second set. After tying the second set at ten and getting out to a big lead to start the third set, Behrend did not look back en route to the dominant win. Numerous individual performances fueled the fire for Behrend. Per the norm, Anthony Sprentz assisted on 27 kills, had four kills and completed five digs. Dillon Hildebrand lead the team with 13.5 points on 10 kills and seven digs. Robert McMaster added 11 digs along with JP Goodsel and Cody Geis adding 11 points each.

Behrend did not fare as well at Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon. Each team exchanged 25-17 sets to start the match before a 13-point win in the fourth set and two-point sudden death victory in the fourth propelled Penn State Altoona to the match win. A seven point run in the second set ensured the Altoona double digit triumph. Despite gaining a lead in the first set and leading for all of the second set, Behrend suffered the match loss. Tyler Herrman led Behrend with 17.5 points, adding 14 digs and nine kills in the process. Sprenz again impressed with nearly 40 assists, just coming one short of said mark. Hildebrand contributed 11 kills, eight digs and two service aces. Joey Reynolds chipped in 10.5 points on four digs and four kills.

The team has two tri-matches coming up this coming Saturday against Siena Heights and Thiel at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. The matches take place at the Junker Center.
