Google is an innovative company when it comes to computer technologies. It’s no surprise that Google has started a new initiative for news in order to ensure that is unbiased and available to everyone. Even though they have no concrete plans for this initiative, they have a few things in the works. The first one is launching Subscribe with Google, a service which will allow readers to sign up for paid subscriptions for partner news companies. Another part of the plan is developing a News Consumer Insights Dashboard on top of the Google Analytics page to help the news publishers see the reach of their news stories and work on increasing its reach over the world.

Looking at the current news situation, with outlets picking sides and letting their biases affect the depiction of news, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was really passionate to bring an unbiased and powerful way to bring all news together and give the reader all sides of the argument with one click of a button.

“Google cares deeply about journalism. We believe in spreading knowledge to make life better for everyone. It’s at the heart of Google’s mission. It’s the mission of publishers and journalists.Put simply, our futures are tied together.”

This quote from Pichai sums up as to why Google was suddenly interested in broadening its work in the journalism industry. To spread the reach of the news, Google is now making it easier to reach the news from your Google account. The tech company will work with news outlets and newspapers to provide the consumer with a plethora of news at one place. A part of the initiative is to open the “digital news ecosystem” and ensure that it open and accessible by each and everyone.

The main factors behind the News Initiative include quality journalism, financial stability, preservation of the digital news ecosystem, new technology and collaboration being the key to success.

Google listed their five factors behind the initiative stating, “we strive to ensure that quality news content is recognized across our platforms, that users can readily discover it, and that news partners benefit from creating it. We’re committed to providing news partners with cutting-edge tools and capabilities to help them better understand and connect with their users, improve their products, and power their underlying technological infrastructure. We are committed to preserving an open digital ecosystem that offers a sustainable way to balance the needs of publishers and consumers. We’re committed to helping partners respond to changing news consumption habits by experimenting with new formats, like virtual reality, and old formats, like audio. Gone are the days when news organizations - or tech companies - can “go it alone.” We’re committed to partnering with innovators to build a better future for news.”

Even though the News Initiative is still in the works of finalization, we will soon be able to see it wonderful effect on the way we get our news in the morning!
