Golf dominates the weekend

Men’s golf had a strong showing this past week at the ECAC Championship Tournament, taking second overall, behind only New York University. The Lions finished with a 600 overall team score, only 8 strokes behind the winner.

The Lions were led by a couple of strong performances by their seniors. Sean Sculley led the Lions with a 147 score, the third overall individual score in the tournament. Ryan Matlcok tallied a 149 overall score, fourth overall in the tournament. Despite tallying the lowest score on the second day (294), the Behrend Lions could not overcome the 11-stroke lead that NYU had built on the first day of the tournament. Patrick McNary and Jensen Li led NYU with 146 scores over the two days.

The team also took 1st in the Behrend Invitational out of 11 teams, capping off a phenomenal weekend for the Behrend Lions Golf team.

There were a variety of outstanding individual performances from the Lions, led by Freshman Jack Perfett and Senior Sean Sculley. Perfett tallied the lowest scores for Behrend, scoring a 73, the lowest score by an individual overall. Sculley was additionally impressive, tying for the second individual score with Sophomore Mark Peters at 75. The Lions tallied a 307 total score, narrowly edging Penn State Altoona by 7 strokes. Junior Noah Kunst, Senior Alex Shindledecker, and Freshman Daniel Thomas also turned in quality performances, with scores of 77, 77, and 79, respectively.

Things are certainly looking up for Behrend as they head into the AMCC Championship Tournament in Warren, Ohio at the Avalon Lakes Golf & Country Club.
