Don't stress: find time for yourself

That time of the semester is officially upon us. Projects, exams, and papers galore are causing us to step back and think to ourselves, “Does it ever stop?” It’s in times like these that we need to find a balance and stay true to ourselves so that we can find ways to unwind and power through.

Even if you don’t have mid-terms exams, chances are you’re currently swamped with other projects for classes. So where can you fit in time to set aside the school work and focus on what you would rather be doing? The key is to prioritize and find the motivation to get a bulk of the work out of the way. If you push through and crank everything out sooner rather than later, you can easily find time to do what makes you happy. This way you won’t be worrying about all of your responsibilities while you’re out having fun.

On the other hand, setting aside even just an hour or two every day for yourself can lead to some time for unwinding. A simple workout can let out loads of stress just by becoming active and taking out frustrations. Listening to your favorite music during this active time may even pump you up some more. If you’re not feeling a workout, try vegging out with some Netflix or a good movie and just relax without worrying about reality for a few hours. Take your mind off of things, put on your comfiest clothes, sit back, and relax.

A great way to enjoy some fresh air and nature’s beauty this time of year is to grab a few friends or your boyfriend/girlfriend and take a walk to look at all of the fall foliage. Another way to enjoy a little bit of time with others is to go out and treat yourself. Whether you need some retail therapy or a nice dinner out, being good to yourself every once in a while never hurts. With all of school’s stress, you deserve it! Your friends are likely going through the same exact struggles as you so you might as well go through them together.

At the end of the day, whatever you do, do it for yourself. Take a hot shower and let all of the steam off (literally). Set aside some time for your hobbies or passions. Do what makes you happy. You’ll thank yourself later.
