Employment opportunities at Behrend

Many students end up spending the majority of their summer working around home and then solely focusing on taking classes during the semester, but what if you could do both?

The reality is, many students also need to work during the semester as well so they can afford the expenses of college or even so they have some spending money. The hardest part can be finding where to work or traveling to and from work while taking classes too.

Fortunately that problem can be solved right at Penn State Behrend. There are plenty of opportunities to work right on campus, with a job that has flexible hours too! Here are some options.

Usually the first place people go to for work at Behrend is Housing and Food Services. Dobbins and Bruno's (including Clark Cafe, Paws, the Galley, and the new Behrend Clipper) are almost always hiring and you can personally select your hours and time shifts you want to work. Along with a reliable source of income also comes discounted meals from these places. You can apply at behrendcampusliving.psu.edu/campus-dining.

Another benefit of housing and food service’s is that you do not have to be eligible for Work-Study.

When thinking about applying for any job at Behrend, the first thing you want to find out is that if you are eligible for Federal Work-Study, or State Work-Study. Penn State Behrend’s student employment section says the following about work-study.

“Federal Work-Study is a student financial aid program for eligible undergraduate and graduate students with high financial need that allows you to earn money to cover a portion of your educational expenses by working on campus or for an off-campus, nonprofit organization. The State Work-Study Program provides Pennsylvania students with employment opportunities in high technology and community service fields. Through the program, you gain career-related, on-the-job work experience while earning money to help pay for your higher education.”

If Housing and Food Services isn’t for you, no need to worry because you can also apply to be a Resident Assistant on campus, which requires an individual and group interview and the completion of the ResLife class. With this position your payment comes in the form of free housing and meal plan with a stipend that varies depending on where you are working as an RA.

There also are positions to be a tutor, positions in student activities, the Chapel, ACPC, the Junker Center, the Library, and other opportunities. Your options are almost endless. If you have been awarded Federal Work-Study, you will want to do a Work-Study Job search on Lionpath. If you do not have Federal Work-Study, you can still get a job on campus! There are a huge variety of other student employment opportunities that do not require Federal Work-Study. Any student interested in a specific position should contact the supervisor of that position directly.

All the Work-Study and non Work-Study jobs can be found on Penn State Behrend’s website simply by searching “student employment” in the search bar.

So don’t let the hassles of working off campus slow you down from finding a job, because there are plenty of opportunities right here on campus that you can simply walk to!
