The Fate of the Furious: more action-packed nonsense

The absurdity continues on this eighth installment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise. If you are looking for crazy action and you are not at all worried about realistic physics, then you will have a blast watching “The Fate of the Furious.” Never enter a “Fast and the Furious” movie thinking too critically about the film, or you will hate it. As expected, the newest film in the franchise is absolutely ridiculous. Its senseless fun that should never be taken too seriously. Although I say that it should not be taken too seriously, I am going to be a hypocrite.

In the eighth film of the franchise, Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto has gone rogue. The villain, played by Charlize Theron, convinces Toretto to join her side and help in an unbelievable situation – obtaining nukes. For some reason, she entrusts this mission on a random street racer instead of tricking anybody of real power or authority since she has the world’s technology at her fingertips, but anyway, I digress.

“The Rock” is thrown in prison, and throws guards all over the place in order to fight Jason Statham (who cares what their names are in the movie?). Anyway, a lot of random cool action-y things happen, which eventually leads to the happy conclusion where everything is okay.

The main flaws that I have with “The Fate of the Furious” are that there is a lot of sitting around and deliberating and talking about the same thing over and over again. My biggest flaw, though, is that Tyrese Gibson is getting on my nerves. His one liners were completely dry, his jokes were awkward and not funny whatsoever, and the problem with that is that every single line of his is a one liner or a “joke.”

Other than that, there is not much else to say about this film. It is exactly as expected. It has over the top action, and completely nonsensical situations that I actually loved about it. It did not take itself too seriously, I mean, “The Rock” pushes a torpedo across ice while a submarine chases them. Thousands of cars are controlled at once by Charlize Theron and swarm the city streets of New York. They are driven out of multiple story high buildings and rain down on two random men in a limo. This movie is insane, and I love it that way.

Overall, “The Fate of the Furious” was a fun time, for sure. It isn’t a great movie, though, yet for this franchise, I don’t care. It has great, nonsensical action, and by now, the absurdity should be expected.
