Women's Bowling holds inaugural home match

The Women’s Bowling team made its debut on Friday, displaying a quality showing, specially for their first match. The Lions took on conference rival Thiel at the Eastland Bowl bowling alley. The team consists of five bowlers: three sophomores, a freshman, and a senior. Becky Patterson (of Erie, PA), the lone senior, leads this youthful upstart of a team.

On Friday, the women’s bowling team competed in their first match in program history. They were defeated by Theil by a total score of 2022-1784. The Lions lost the first two games, but they came back and won the final game. In the first match, Bobbi Doubet scored a 150, while Hali Hartley scored a 138. In third place for Behrend was Becky Patterson with a score of 136. Patterson lead Behrend in the second game with a score of 135, while  Bayleigh Adams was closely behind with a score of 133. In the third game, the Lions found their groove and all bowlers bowled over 100. The third game included 11 strikes for the Behrend team. Leading the way was Hartley with a score of 159, good for a game-high. She also lead the team in the match, knocking down 404 pins. Thiel won the first two games by scores of of 754-599 and 659-575, respectively. The third game, in which Behrend rebounded, resulted in a score of 620-609. The team competes at the Medaille Invitational next week in Buffalo. The next home match is against St. Vincent on November 28 at Eastland Bowl bowling alley.

The team only has only six home matches this year, so they will have to be road warriors for their inaugural year as a program. Rest assured, the program has made a satisfying start to the year that they hope to build off of in the next few matches and into the rest of the season.
