David Boehme Seeks AMCC Crown in Senior Season

The Penn State Behrend Baseball team will look to capture an AMCC Title this season, and infielder Dave Boehme will be one of the key members that can help the Lions achieve this feat. Boehme has always had a love for the game of baseball, but how is it that he ended up at Penn State Behrend?

Boehme is from Peters Township, Pennsylvania, and he attended Seton-La Salle Catholic High School. In high school, he was awarded four letters in baseball as well as two in basketball. Attending Seton-La Salle allowed him to play a lot of high quality WPIAL opponents, and more importantly, gain a quality education at a school with a reputation for academic excellence, which made adjusting to college coursework a bit easier. “We were always competitive in athletics in my high school career,” Boehme said. He was definitely not exaggerating. He played in a WPIAL Championship in both baseball and basketball his senior year, and was also a state runner up in basketball his senior year. Boehme was a part of a lot of monumental games in high school, and it has truly prepared him for all of the big time games he has been a part of as a member of the Behrend baseball team.

In Boehme’s three-year career at Behrend, he has been to three AMCC Championship games and has yet to come out on top. He will look to change both his and Behrend’s luck this upcoming season, and there are a lot of key returning players that can help Behrend get back to the title game. Although Boehme may not have the best record in big time games so far, he is succeeding in the classroom.

Boehme is a an Interdisciplinary Business with Engineering major, and he intends to further his education at Salus University after graduating from Behrend. Both of his parents have a background in the medical field, and he hopes he can be a successful eye doctor and businessman, much like his father. Aside from being an eye doctor, Boehme’s father continues to find ways to improve his practice. He has advanced his practice to include the selling and fitting of eyeglasses, with the help of some co-workers. The only thing separating him from optometry school is finishing his undergrad in IBE along with taking the Optometry Admission Test to be admitted into Salus University. Aside from his admiration of his parents, there are two athletes who Boehme has looked up to for quite some time.

Albert Pujols is one athlete who he has a lot of respect for. Albert Pujols was an unprivileged man from the Dominican Republic who has become a household name in the MLB. He is considered by many to be one of the best baseball players of all time, and more importantly, a wonderful humanitarian. Pujols has always carried himself well, and has performed well for both the Angels and the Cardinals. Boehme also is a huge Tim Tebow fan. Tebow may not have had the greatest of NFL careers, but he is one of the best college quarterbacks to ever play. Tebow has always held himself to an extremely high standard, and he is always finding ways to work with numerous charities to better people’s lives. Tim Tebow’s faith is what truly sets him apart in Boehme's eyes. “His work ethic and his strong faith are what set him apart as a role model for me. He never gives up in anything he does,” Boehme stated.  Boehme also talked about his favorite memories playing baseball throughout his entire playing career.

His favorite memory of all time playing baseball was as a twelve year old Little Leaguer when his Beaver Valley AAU baseball won a tournament in Cooperstown, New York. The tournament had 98 teams, and thousands of people watched the championship game. His favorite memory as a college baseball player actually came off of the diamond. He loves spending time with his teammates in Florida each season during Spring Training. He enjoys going to the beach with all of his teammates, and also playing a few baseball games in their time in Florida.

Boehme has a bright future both in baseball and hopefully as an eye doctor. He has one more season to win an AMCC Championship, and Behrend fans all hope that this is the year when this team dethrones LaRoche in the AMCC Finals. Aside from Boehme's versatility as an infielder, it is truly his versatility as a student that sets him apart from many other student athletes on our campus. He has a great career ahead of him as an eye doctor, and he has a great family with a lot of experience in medicine and the business world that will help him reach his goals. We are just a few months away from another great year of Behrend baseball, and one thing remains constant this year: Boheme and the Lions are hungry for an AMC
