Softball finishes the week 4-0, Bupp’s grand slam headlines victories

The Penn State Behrend softball team combined to score 23 runs on 31 hits on Wednesay afternoon to defeat the Pitt Bradford Panthers twice in their doubleheader.

This past week, the Behrend softball team combined to play in four complete softball games to finish with an undefeated record of 4-0. The first two games were played at Pitt-Bradford, PA, where they defeated the Panthers 14-4 and 9-6. The second set of games were played here at Behrend on Sunday, where the Lions ended with two wins with scores of 8-1 and 6-0.

When the Lions traveled to Bradford to play against the Panthers, they combined both games to score 23 runs from 31 hits. The first game started strong, with the Lions scoring five runs in the first three innings. Although the Panthers tried to keep up, the Lions came out on top 9-6. In the second game, the Lions also started out strong again with a 3-0 lead, which went on to become a 4-4 tie in later innings. Behrend then went on a 10-run frame in the 9th inning, which started out from a grandslam by Alexa Bupp. The team defeated Bradford 14-4 at the end of that game. At the end of the day, AJ Nichols went 5-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, and Rachel Miller now has four wins in the circle this year.

This past Sunday, the Lions were back after shoveling snow off their field for their home opener. Carson Hauser had a triple and was brought in with a ground out by Nichols at the beginning of game one. Kristen Kargol helped the Lions immensely with a three run out of the park home run that improved the score to 4-0. In the 3rd inning, the Lions came together as a team to improve the game to 8-0. They only allowed one run the rest of the game. Miller ended the game in the circle only allowing two hits. The second game ended 6-0 in favor of the Lions. Jillian Williams helped the Lions with two hits along with Bupp and Kargol. Kargol went 4-for-4 for the day.

The Behrend Lions will be back on the field on Tuesday against Alfred with a doubleheader, starting at 3:30pm.
