What's new with Spotify

As a college student, one of the essentials for getting through the day is great music. Many services like Apple, Pandora, and Spotify offer an almost unlimited amount of songs and albums that cater to everyone’s specific music choices. I personally like and use Spotify since it’s my favorite music streaming app. One of the features on Spotify that I really enjoy is new music Friday. Every Friday, highly anticipated and recent songs are released onto Spotify to give listeners a fresh start to their weekend. More specifically, there two other playlists that personalize your tunes and give you suggestions based on your previous song choices: Discover Weekly and Your Release Radar. The other two playlists narrow the search down even more for the listener to help find their new favorite song. You don’t just get one new updated playlist, you get three.

This week, a lot of popular artists flooded this new music Friday’s playlist. Sam Smith was this week’s song highlight with his recent release of “Too Good at Goodbyes”. Other Artists like Hailee Steinfield, ZAYN, Kelly Clarkson, G-Eazy, and Demi Lovato dropped their newest singles. I listened to the playlist this morning, and it has been one of my favorite one to date. I’m a big fan of popular music, so this playlist was the perfect fit for me. Although this playlist wasn’t as diverse as the others are, Spotify still did a good job at incorporating genres like country, dubstep, alternative, and rock into the mix.

The great thing about new music Friday is the convenience. If you are anticipating a song drop, all you have to do is wait until Friday, go to your main screen in your Spotify to click on the playlist, and start listening. They normally order the songs from most popular to least, so if you’re into pop like me, your new songs are right there waiting for you. Spotify offers over 30 million songs, so it can be time consuming to look for new music to listen to, not just a specific song. Instead of scrolling through endless song choices and suggested songs, its one click to access the music you’re looking for. The playlist stays on your main screen until the next Friday, so you have all week to listen to the playlist over and over again. The only suggestion I will make about the music is that you want to save any of your new favorite songs right away off of the playlist. If you don’t by the end of the week, the song will be lost in all the others and you’ll have to search for it individually. All you have to do to save the song is click on the checkmark to the left and you’re all set. The song will automatically be saved to your “songs” playlist under the “your library” tab. With so many genres and new songs coming out, it’s hard to keep track of it all, but with Spotify you don’t have to miss a thing.
