Salesmen are back in style

Two supergiants in the electronic retail market, Amazon and Best Buy have come out with similar techniques to enrich consumer experience. Both companies are investing in the idea of “tech - enabled travelling salespeople.” These salespeople will go from house to house, consulting people on their automated home needs. Both Amazon and Best Buy are offering free smart home consultations.

So how does this work? Well, you first go to the company’s website and schedule a free in - home consultation. You can choose the date and time most suitable to you and you also mention the kind of assistance you need - whether that be making your living room into a home theatre, or redecorating your kitchen. A trained professional will survey the situation and then provide the products they feel are best for your home. However, once these products arrive, Best Buy and Amazon will charge you for the installation process.

The benefits of this program are that you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home. Secondly, the suggestions you get are more personalized and are sure to fit your needs, due to the fact that the situation has been surveyed by the professional themselves. This makes it easier for people who do not have such technical knowledge to get the assistance they need. And last but not the least is that it is free!

The disadvantages still exist, but can be remedied into advantages. The first one is that the salespeople will only recommend the products to you. You have to order these products from these respective sites yourself. You will also be charged for the installation of said products. Also, the possible downfall could be the employee not explaining the benefits or offers properly, thus wasting the consumer’s time, which will result in them not repeating this service.

Given all the advantages and disadvantages, going back to the root of sales could potentially be a good idea, and can definitely be a hit with the masses if marketed and implemented appropriately.
