Dubai Blasts into the Future

Have you ever imagined flying above your city, in a driverless helicopter? This might soon be a reality for the residents of Dubai, with the inception of ‘flying taxis’, an innovative self operating mode of travel called the Volocopter.

The specifics of this flying taxi, also known as the Volocopter, are very advanced. The Volocopter is a multi blade helicopter, which can carry up to two people at a time. It has a maximum flight time of 30 mins and has 18 sensors for its blades, to ensure a safe landing in case one of the components fails.

Dubai is one of the most prominent cities in the middle eastern country of United Arab Emirates (UAE). UAE is home to some of the richest and advanced countries in the world, with an overall GDP of  $348.7 Billion. So it comes as no surprise that Dubai’s government wants to establish an intricate network of flying taxis in the city, which is charted to roll out by 2022.

The trials of the first prototype took place just last week, on an airstrip right outside of the city. These trials are part of an ongoing five year plan to ensure that the flying taxis follow the security regulations set by the country, and that there is no harm to the passengers. All safety regulations are set and conducted by Dubai’s Road Transport Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority.

Citizens of the city are not impressed, however with this amazingly innovative piece of technology. Citizens have raised concerns about not being able to Skype or Facetime due to the city’s strict rules and restrictions. People are asking Dubai to ‘try again’ to get these issues solved, once the restrictions are removed.

All in all, this is a very cool and productive step ahead for one of the world’s most advanced cities. Be sure to plan a trip to Dubai now,and get in on the ground floor of this groundbreaking new concept.
