Floor Hockey Club preps for inaugural Behrend Classic

It is a quiet Erie night, but a noise is being made in Erie Hall. what is this noise, you may ask? Every Tuesday and Thursday night, students of all backgrounds make their way to Erie Hall to escape the stresses of college life for a fun game of floor hockey with some good friends. That is what the Floor Hockey Club’s is in creating the Behrend classic.

A committee in the club, headed by junior President Sean Wither and assisted by assorted freshman, aim to capture a successful and professionally run competitive hockey tournament. With sub-committees in graphic designing, marketing, itinerary, and rules, the Tournament Committee set the date for Saturday, November 11th. The tournament, fashioned and revised by the committee, will be a three-on-three tournament in which any and all persons are invited to get a team together and join. No team? Don’t worry, the committee has prepared for any and all issues that could possibly arrive, you may register as a single player and later be assigned to a team.

If you in any way, shape or form are interested in hockey, Floor Hockey Club is a must try. The club has seen people dedicated to the club, ranging from former players themselves to people who have touched a hockey stick for the first time. Your skill will have no impact on the experience you will have at one of our sessions. The sense of hospitality observed there is unparalleled; players that have experience will stop in the middle of shift, if need be, to give you pointers and make you a better player. The variety of people you will meet, plus your experience at hockey, will have you itching for the next session, as many club members yearn for the magical event message to appear in the GroupMe.

The Behrend Classic is a chance to get a taste of the Floor Hockey Club. New or experienced in hockey, we urge you to join. The winner of The Behrend Classic will reign supreme with bragging rights and their names forever engraved on the Behrend Cup, a never ending memento to your triumph.

If you plan on registering for the tournament, I urge you to attend our bi-weekly sessions, which are held on Tuesday and Thursday in Erie Hall at 10 p.m. This will be an amazing opportunity for you or your team to scout out the competition, learn what to expect from the tournament and to, most importantly, have fun.

With than less a month remaining until puck drop, the time to register and practice is dwindling. Make your way to the nearest bulletin board in Reed, Nick, OBS, Hammermill, Kochel to find more info and to register. Remember practice makes perfect and I hope to see you at the tournament November 11th.
