Smoothies:

The tips and tricks

Smoothies are something that can be very refreshing and easy to make. Just this semester, I have personally found a huge interest in making smoothies at home. You can make very simple smoothies such as a strawberry banana smoothie or a more complex smoothie such as mixed berry. In order to make a smoothie, you only need a few ingredients. These ingredients are milk, yogurt and fruit. You can always add in extra things such as chocolate chips, peanut butter, granola, etc.

When you make smoothies, you can look up online the exact amount of each ingredient that you need for the smoothie. Although exact measurements are nice to use, here is your first tip. Relax when you make your smoothie and just throw in some ingredients. You can’t really mess up a smoothie unless you mix two strange ingredients together. When I make my smoothies, I usually make a mixed berry smoothie or strawberry banana smoothie. When I make the strawberry banana one, I use a splash of milk, about half a cup of strawberry banana yogurt, a few strawberries, half of a banana and a few ice cubes. Blend it and you have yourself a fantastic smoothie! Sometimes, adding chocolate chips can spice up this smoothie and add some sweetness to it.

Another big tip that I advise for smoothie makers is to cut up your fruit ahead of time and freeze it. Get small Ziploc bags and cut up your fruit for your different kinds of smoothies, days, weeks or even months in advance. This type of prepping allows for your fruit to stay fresh longer while it is frozen. Especially if your fruit is starting to go bad, you should cut it up and freeze it so that you can make use out of it by using it for a smoothie.

My last tip is to get creative with the flavors of your smoothies. Mixed berry can mean so many things so interpret it the way you want and take all your favorite berries and mix them together. Bananas, strawberries and raspberries are a great combination to try, as well as, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries.

Most importantly have fun with making smoothies! Having them first thing in the morning for breakfast is a great way to start your day, especially with a bagel and cream cheese or even an omelet. So head over to the grocery store, grab some fruit and start planning out your smoothies for the week!
