The Clipper, the Behrend food truck, came into the lives of students last school year. It traveled around campus, and promoted the highly popularized “chicken-waffle sandwich” among other unique food items

However, returning students may have noticed the lack of activity from the food truck this semester. That is due to its departure from campus roughly two weeks ago.

Usually staffed by one or two students and chefs, the food truck was often seen at Behrend sporting events, and with a long line around lunch time. It was also known to make its way up to AMIC and other parts of knowledge park.

Behrend has experienced a slight decline in enrollment for this fall semester, as well as a decline in students living on campus, currently at around 1,500 students. Perry Hall is currently vacant for renovations, and also with less students comes less student workers.

The original reason for not using The Clipper was lack of student workers and chefs. However, the actuality of the situation is that it makes more economical sense to send The Clipper to University Park, where there are nearly 100,000 enrolled, compared to the roughly 5,000 students enrolled at Behrend, according to Penn State. The plan is to bring out The Clipper primarily on game days, when 150,000 plus people are at the stadium to watch football.
The university does not plan on rebranding the truck just yet. For now, the truck will run on game days until the university eventually reevaluates the situation.
