Pennsylvania State Police responded to a 911 call from a couple who discovered a body near Fourmile Creek in the Wintergreen Gorge Sunday afternoon.

According to YourErie.com., State Police and Brookside Fire Company responded to the scene in Harborcreek Township, where the body was found below a bridge on the Bayfront Connector at Shannon Road. Penn State Behrend police also responded after receiving news that the location of the scene ran through the property of Behrend’s campus. The body was identified as a 40-year-old man from Lawrence Park Township and later declared deceased at 3:18 p.m. on Sunday by Erie County Chief Deputy Coroner Nick Rekitt.

State police blocked access to surrounding areas of the gorge as investigators searched the scene. Movement in the vicinity, including areas of the Bayfront Connector and Shannon and Cooper road was restricted until the investigation concluded at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The name of the man has not yet been released. After investigating the scene, police found no signs of foul play. The coroner declared the man’s death as suicide and explained the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head due to jumping from the bridge. There will be no autopsy performed for cause of death.
